Role: Creative Technologist
Overview
Make a Splash is an immersive experience designed for Booking.com’s Click.24 conference, combining projection, spatial design, and interactive elements to create a multi-sensory introduction to the event. The project focused on designing an experience that not only captured attention, but also guided visitors’ understanding as they entered the space.
Problem / Purpose
As the first touchpoint of the conference, the activation needed to communicate two key ideas: Booking.com as a technology-driven company, and the event’s focus on business services and partnerships. The challenge was that immersive projection environments, while visually impactful, can often distract visitors from key messages. This project was driven by the need to balance visual immersion with clarity, ensuring that visitors could both experience and understand the content.
Process
The experience was designed as a sequence of projected environments enhanced by mirrored surfaces, transitioning visitors through different travel-related scenes. My contribution focused on shaping how the space communicated meaning through interaction and flow. I mapped the visitor journey across stages of attract, explore, interact, and learn, using this framework to evaluate how effectively the space guided attention and delivered information. I designed interactive touchpoints that allowed visitors to trigger content about Booking.com’s partner ecosystem, embedding moments of engagement within the projection environment.
I also developed 3D simulations of the space to test spatial layout, interaction placement, and motion previews before production. This helped validate how visitors would move through and experience the environment, ensuring the interaction remained intuitive and smooth within a large-scale immersive setting.
Outcome
The final outcome is an immersive activation that combines projection-based environments with interactive storytelling, creating a visually engaging yet informative entrance experience. The project demonstrates my ability to design immersive spaces that balance spectacle with clarity, using interaction and spatial design to guide user understanding.
