Role: Individual Project
Overview
Puff & Hue is a gamified mobile shopping experience developed for an independent bag charm business that sells through weekend markets, festivals, and online channels. Combining interactive storytelling, personalised product recommendations, and playful visual design, the app transforms conventional product browsing into a fun quiz that helps customers discover bag charms that resonate with their mood, style, and preferences.
Problem / Purpose
The business faced a challenge of finding a more engaging way to attract customers and encourage purchases. Through understanding the brand's target audience and typical shopping scenarios, I identified that bag charms are often spontaneous, emotion-driven purchases, where customers are drawn to something that reflects their personality or simply makes them happy. Therefore, this project aimed to create an experience that builds on this sense of curiosity, self-expression, and enjoyment.
Process
I designed the user journey around a series of questions exploring customers' moods, styles, and personal preferences. Their answers guide the recommendation system towards a suitable bag charm, with a tarot-inspired reveal. Rather than simply displaying a product, the result offers a personalised interpretation of the match, creating a sense of discovery and emotional connection.
I brought together the interaction design, user interface, visual identity, and recommendation logic into a fully functional web app using Google AI studio. Through playful typography, vibrant colours, card-based layouts, and a clear progression from quiz to product discovery and purchase, I ensured the experience is simple and enjoyable throughout while supporting its commercial purpose.
Outcome
The result combines creative storytelling with a practical recommendation system designed around the brand's products and customers. Is is designed to complement both physical market stalls and online sales.
